Proofpoint Essentials Email Archive FAQ

What Ports does the customer need to open in order to accept IMAP traffic?

Customers can specify the ports to use, normally it will be the default IMAP ports 143 and 993

Please insure the Proofpoint archive IP's are allowed on these ports. IMAP Connection IP's.

What file formats do we support for import?

Proofpoint supports zipped EML files up to 80Gb and Exchange exported PST files up to 10Gb. Please see our article on Importing Data to the Essentials Archive for more information.

Which mail servers/hosted services is our archive currently compatible with?

We support Exchange 2010, 2013 and 2016. We also support Office 365.

Who has access to the Archive Configuration?

  • Channel/Strategic Partner Admins - have access to their own Archive and administrative privileges to only their direct downstream customer. If the direct downstream customer is a Channel with customer(s) of their own, then the Partner Admin will be able to view the Archive configuration but will not be able to edit it.

Note: If you do NOT want Channel/Strategic Admins to have access to change/view the Partner Email Archive, simply turn off the 'Administrator' and 'Discovery User' slide bars for those users. Once this is done, by default they will have access to only their own emails in the Partner Archive.

  • Organization Admins - have admin access to their own Archive only, as well as access to their Archived emails. Newly created org-admins get the permissions to access their entire archive automatically. Users who are changed to Org Admins sometime after the User account is created, need to be provisioned access in the Email Archive.
  • End Users - have access to view their own Archived emails. No administrative privileges unless explicitly granted by an admin.

Where do I find information on settling up the New Archive?
