Situation I want email for Public Folders to flow through Essentials 
Solution See below to enable email for Public Folders in Essentials

 

Does Azure recognize Public folders in Exchange/0365? 

No, Azure does not see the Public Folders in the Azure Sync. That does not mean that mail cannot flow to these accounts. Since they are not synced automatically, the following process will allow a Public Folder to receive email. 

  • Make sure the Public Folder has an email address assigned to the object. 
  • Create a User or Functional account in Essentials.

  • Then exempt the account from sync (So that Azure will not try to delete it).
     
    • Click here for Exempting an Account. 
  • Propagation time before email will start flowing can take up to 1 hour.
