Active Directory Error Codes

Situation Active Directory Sync has failed and given you an error message.

Active Directory Error Codes 

When running a manual sync of Active Directory and set-up configuration there are sometimes error codes and issues that may occur. Below are some of them outlined and potential resolutions before contacting Technical Support.

Errors and Troubleshooting Steps:

Password Requirement: 
1. Length should be a minimum of 12 characters and maximum of 22 characters.
2. Cannot include any math related symbols.

Active Directory Requirement: 
1. An email address is needed in the email field in the General Properties area of the object.
2. The login for Active Directory at least needs Domain Admin read rights. 

 

Error - LDAP Binding failed with the following error: 'Invalid Credentials' 

  1. Confirm that the username is correct and the password is correct and meets the Password Requirements above.
  2. Ensure all of Proofpoint Essential IP ranges are correctly safelisted on your firewall: (Including the 148.xxx breakdown).

Error - “Could not bind privileged user. Ldap Error Code  =-1 – Can’t contact LDAP server”

  1. Make sure all of Proofpoint Essential IP ranges are correctly safelisted on your firewall: (Including the 148.xxx breakdown).
  2. Under ACTIVE DIRECTORY CONNECTION SETTINGS, ensure the Username is a Domain Admin for that domain.
  3. Ensure TLS is enabled. We use TLS version 1.2 or newer.

Error - LDAP Bind error (49)

This is credential related error. 

  1. Ensure that the username field has the format of username@domainname.com or domain/username. 
  2. Ensure that the password meets Password Requirements above.

Error: Failed to connect to DC (Connection refused). Error Code (111)

Ensure all of Proofpoint Essential IP ranges are correctly safelisted on your firewall: (Including the 148.xxx breakdown).

Error: Failed to connect to DC (Connection timed out). Error Code (110)

Ensure all of Proofpoint Essential IP ranges are correctly safelisted on your firewall: (Including the 148.xxx breakdown).

Error: This action is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.

Ensure that the password meets Password Requirements above. This error can be given if the password you are using is too long.
