Google Workspace email caught as spoof

Situation Google messages are getting caught by Proofpoint Essential's spoof protection.
Solution

See below for information how to:

  • Disable spoof protection
  • Add Google Apps to sending server list

 

Overview

Google may route internal mail externally causing an issue with Proofpoint Essential's spoof protection.

There are two options to prevent this:

  1. Disable spoof protection OR 
  2. Add Google Apps to the sending server list.

How to disable spoof protection

  1. Navigate to Security Settings > Email > Spam Settings.
  2. Disable Inbound domain spoofing protection.
  3. Enable Update spam detection settings above for all existing user accounts. This is located at the very bottom of the page.
  4. Click Save.

Add Google Apps to Sending Server List

Enabling Outbound Relaying

  1. Navigate to Administration > Account Management > Features.
  2. Enable Enable Outbound relaying.
  3. Click Save.

Adding Google App's hosted services

  1. Navigate to Administration > Account Management > Domains.
  2. Under Sending Servers, click Manage Hosted Services.
  3. Enable Google Apps buy clicking the circle next to it. It will turn blue when enabled.
  4. Click Save.
